Watercress could be the king of superfoods

According to a recent report watercress could be the best healthy food available to us.

Currently, the awareness for ‘healthy eating’ is growing. Consumers are focusing on organic and healthy foods. There are many superfoods available in the market. Some of these superfoods include blueberries, acai berries, yogurt, kiwis, nuts, and eggs.

Many reports show that eating certain vegetables and fruits can help in prevention of chronic disorders. But, there are so many superfoods that what works to prevent chronic disease has not been clearly established yet.

However, the report states that watercress could be the king of all these superfoods. A title attributed to the health benefits it provides. Watercress is a salad leaf vegetable which contains many minerals and vitamins.

To help consumers choose from these superfoods the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a report called ‘Preventing Chronic Disease’. In the study a group of forty seven vegetables and fruits sere studied according to their nutrition content.

Topping the list of these foods was watercress, which is a leafy green vegetable. It displayed a nutrient density of 100. In the second place was Chinese cabbage with a nutrient density of 91.99, while chard earned the third place with score of 89.27.

The United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention does not make any claim if these foods will help in prevention or treatment of certain disorders. This report was aimed to provide ranking of foods based on their nutrient density, in which watercress topped the list.
