Science is taking further steps towards the impossible. In a recent report it was found that a Brazilian woman has given birth to a healthy baby. That may seem common news but not until you know that the womb of this Brazilian lady was not her own. Yes, the womb was transplanted from the body of a dead woman and it is a miracle that the womb of a dead woman could deliver a healthy baby girl. She was delivered using caesarean section at her 35th week and 3rd day of pregnancy. She was examined as perfectly normal and weighed about 2250 grams.
Womb Transplant – A Ray of Hope for Infertile Mothers
As per the research published on the medical journal, The Lancet, this success of science could now be a solution in the future years. Women having uterine problems, and those that cannot bear child of their own could now see the ray of hope by womb transplantation. Statistically, it is estimated that 1 out of a 1000 women get uterine problems.
The procedure includes affixing veins and arteries, along with vaginal canals and ligaments from the uterus of the donor to that of the recipient’s. At present the womb transplant norm is being followed only if a member of the same family is willing to donate her birth-giving organ. The success rate of womb transplant and giving live birth is 11 out of 39 procedures. Thus, the procedure is still under examination for optimization.
