Google debuts audiobooks on Play Store for India and 44 other countries. These audiobooks to be available in nine languages would be accessible for Android, iOS, and web platforms. The audiobooks could be accessed with Google play books with the help of smart speakers integrated with Google Assistant.
Google is rolling out audiobooks for users who prefer books to be read out loud to them. The audiobooks integrated with Google Assistant is available on Android, iOS, Android Wear, Chromecast, Android Auto, or even the laptop.
Access to Audio Books is free of Subscription
To access the books, one needs to head to the book section on Google’s Play Store and browse them across various genres such as Romance, biographies, Fiction & literature, and self-help among others. The user can then select any book and have a free listening preview before buying the book. The audiobooks can be accessed without subscription and can be purchased individually.
The Google Assistant integration feature enables users to ask assistant to read the books loud out to them on their speaker or phone or put forth basic questions such as the author of the book. The Internet giant added that the feature will soon be rolled out to Google Assistant on Android Auto in the U.S.
Google audiobooks will give competition to Amazon’s Audible which is reported to pilot the service in India prior to a public launch. Books can also be shared among family members without incurring any extra fee via the Family Library feature. Currently, the company is offering discounts on popular titles such as Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury.
