FDA Announced Recalls for Dog Food Suspecting Salmonella Contamination

Recently, the United States Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of the many batches of the two brands of pet food which might be contaminated with salmonella. These brands include Nature and Bravo Chicken. Nature Variety’s Instinct Raw Chicken Formula for Dogs and Bravo Chicken’s pet foods for cats and dogs is now under scrutiny.
Salmonella can lead to severe illness and in some cases fatal infection in younger children, elderly people, frail people, or individuals that have compromised immunity system, states the FDA. These contaminated products are now limited and packaged in several forms. Furthermore, the ‘best buy’ date on these products was below the seal. This packages were distributed via retail stores in the United States and the limited amount of distribution was in Canada. On the other hand, the Nature’s Variety products were also affected, stated the FDA.
The firm Nature’s Variety are alert of a potential issue after the incident of FDA notified this company that a routine surveillance sample showed positive results for salmonella. Furthermore, over 100 cases of Bravo Blend Chicken was recalled suspected of possible contamination.
Though these products have not yet tested positive for any salmonella contamination, the firm is recalling them as they were made in the same facility and also on the same day this product was tested positive, again a number of such products were affected.
This recall was initiated post a routine checkup by the New York State DOE that unveiled that presence of salmonella. Nevertheless, the company Bravo Pet Foods have said they didn’t receive any reports of illness till date in either animals or humans that was related with these products.
The FDA said that healthy people were infected with this bacteria can monitor themselves for any signs of nausea, bloody diarrhea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, this infection can cause arterial infections, muscle pain, arthritis, and endocarditis.
