Wipro, the giant IT service provider, stated that it has entered into a partnership with Ensono, a U.S.-based firm, according to which, Wipro will be selling its hosted data center services business to Ensono for US$405 mn. Both the companies have also agreed upon a long-term partnership agreement to address the hybrid IT requirements of the new and existing enterprise customers of Wipro, stated the spokesperson of Wipro. As a part of the agreement, the Indian IT services major, which is currently worth US$8.4 bn, will be making a strategic investment of US$55 mn in the combined entity of Ensono, which is a hybrid IT service providers that provides solutions for both on-premise, as well as cloud. Wipro further stated that it will unlock the value by transitioning 8 data centers and over 900 workforces of its hosted data center service business to the U.S. Company.
In 2007, Wipro acquired Infocrossing Inc. and started operating hosted data center services. The other two businesses that it acquired back then, Medicare and Medicaid services in the health insurance space and the ERP implementation services, have also been incorporated with other Wipro businesses. These businesses are not a part of this divestment, the company said in a statement. “This partnership will improve the global data center footprint and will increase the existing talent pool, giving the company economies of scale and allowing it to offer better end-to-end capabilities in this infrastructure space,” stated Kiran Desai, the Senior Vice President of Global Infrastructure Services at Wipro.
