The world’s largest drone manufacturer DJI is launching the successor to its highly acclaimed drone Mavic Pro. Simply called the Mavic 2, this device will be available in two varieties, the Mavic Pro 2 and the Mavic 2 Zoom.
More Details about the New Mavic Drone Launched by DJI
As per reports, the major difference between both varieties is the on-board camera. Compared to its predecessor, a few of the camera features have been upgraded across the board, including the addition of enhanced dynamic range, to provide better shots in mixed lighting settings. As the name suggests, the Mavic 2 Pro is more expensive than the Mavic 2 Zoom, the former available at US$1,499 and the latter at US$1,249.
With the 2017 acquisition of Hasselblad, DJI has incorporated the latter’s proprietary Natural Color Solution technology to give accurate color reproduction in the Mavic 2 Pro. The aperture is adjustable, giving users shooters between f/2.8-f/11 for various lighting conditions. The camera can capture 20 megapixel shots and definitely provides better image quality than the earlier Mavic Pro drone. In contrast, the Mavic 2 Zoom is all about its zooming capacity which is 2x optical from 24-48mm and 2x digital zoom. These combine to simulate the effects of a 96mm lens. The 12-megapixel camera also uses a new “Super Resolution” feature that stitches nine zoomed-in photos for a super high resolution 48-megapixel shot. This feature is highly useful for landscape photography.
Apart from these characteristics, the company has also integrated a Dolly Zoom shot mode. This feature is quite interesting as it helps zoom in on an object while the drone flies off in the opposite direction, thus creating a disorienting shot. From an overall perspective, DJI has certainly achieved significant progress in terms of drone quality and is poised to retain its position in this market.
