Apple’s AirPort base stations have hugely befitted a large host of consumers in the past but the utility-serving product has seen its termination in the market. Apple has announced that it would put an end to the manufacture of its line of AirPort base stations viz. AirPort Extreme, AirPort Time Capsule, and AirPort Express. The remaining stock with the company would continue to be sold via the stores but there will be no new production rounds for the AirPort base stations. Other sources that will sell these devices until the stocks run out include authorize resellers of Apple products and Apple’s website.
Obsoleteness of Technology
The discontinuation of production for AirPort base products has not come as a surprise to the public. This is because there have been a series changes to the home networking scene since the time Apple offset its production 20 years ago. Furthermore, several nascent consumer electronics have replaced the AirPort base lines of Apple that are considered old, outdated, and obsolete. Netgear, Linksys, and Google have made some commendable product offerings that have dominated the minds of the consumers.
It is anticipated that Apple would foray into new products that offer the same utility as the AirPort base devices. AirPort has not proved to be very profitable for the company, and hence, it would be interesting to see the new strategy that the company adopts.
