Amazon had announced yesterday that it will introduce oven and microwave control features for Alexa, its smart assistant. Users will now be able to directly control their oven or microwave with the help of Alexa. While these features will only work to control ovens and microwaves, Amazon has said that Alexa will soon be able to provide control support for other cooking appliances as well. However, a bigger limitation of using Alexa with its new features is on the side of the appliance that the user is trying to control. This could be because of the requirement of keeping the appliance updated to support the new features Alexa has to offer.
Besides Whirlpool, Kenmore, Samsung, LG, and GE to Add Alexa Support
Amazon does have a few partners at hand which could come out with appliances supporting the new Alexa features. However, it has still not been clear when the support will roll out. The first company to launch the integration has been supposed to be Whirlpool, which has been expected to come up with connected microwaves that will allow users to operate, start, and configure them. In the near future, other brands such as Kenmore, Samsung, LG, and GE Appliances have been anticipated to support Alexa features with their new line of ovens.
It has seemed that Amazon has been taking efforts to extend Alexa’s reach in different areas. Consumers hope that the company and its partners have taken the required precautions to avoid unfortunate situations because of Alexa-supported appliances being accidently set without realizing. However, Alexa has been usually good at turning a deaf ear to accidental commands.
