Xiaomi, a leading Chinese smartphone vendor, has recently gained an important patent assets from Nokia as a part of a multi-year patent agreement. The collaboration also comprises of a cross license to each of the enterprises’ cellular standard essential patents. Additionally, Xiaomi will gain the network infrastructure equipment from Nokia that will cater to low power, high capacity requirements of the large web vendors and datacenter operators, stated the company.
“Xiaomi is one of the leading smartphone vendors across the world and Nokia is thrilled to be involved into an agreement with the firm,” stated Rajeev Suri, the president and CEO at Nokia. “Along with welcoming such a leading technology enterprise to Nokia’s family of patent licensees, the company look forward to collaborate on a varied array of strategic projects,” he added.
As per the agreement, Xiaomi and Nokia will team up on optical transport solutions for IP Routing based on FP4 network processor – recently announced by Nokia, datacenter interconnect, and a data center fabric solution. Both the enterprises will also explore the opportunities for a further association in various areas, such as augmented and virtual reality, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence. “As an enterprise, looking for delivering more exciting technological innovations to the world, it is a thrilling opportunity to work more closely with the telecommunication giant in future,” stated Lei Jun, the chairman and CEO of Xiaomi.
Xiaomi has presence in more than 30 regions and economies. The company claims to have crossed 60 million connected devices with Mi Ecosystem IoT platform.
