Mahindra & Mahindra to Expand its Production in the Telangana Unit

On Wednesday, Mahindra & Mahindra started with the new automotive production facility of its unit at Zaheerabad which is in Medak District of the Telangana State in India. This production unit was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao. This unit will be manufacturing Mahindra's new small-sized commercial vehicle which is code named as P601.
The launch of this new vehicle is planned by the end of September. The automotive department of the US$16.5 billion Mahindra Group informed that they have made an investment of Rs.250 crore on this extended manufacturing unit.
The additional unit has started with a new manufacturing capacity of around 92,000 vehicles every year. After the opening of this extended unit, the total plant capacity will be around 1.40 lakh vehicles every year. The company informed that, the automotive unit in Zaheerabad will be producing one tonne of commercial vehicles that will include passenger vehicles and 4-wheel load. These productions will be adding up to LCVs, utility vehicles, and 3-wheelers which are currently manufactured in the unit.
Pravin Shah, the President and Chief Executive of Mahindra & Mahindra stated that the company will be generating employment within the production unit directly or indirectly with the help of suppliers and different business partners. He further added that, around six of their suppliers are presently helping in setting up the plants in the nearby supplier park with an investment of around Rs.100 crore. This will help in maximizing many industrial activities and operational effectiveness, which will lead in time delivery optimizing cost.
The tractor plant of the company at Zaheerabad started in 2013 and almost 3,500 units are manufactured in every month at the unit. Apart from the Zaheerabad unit, Mahindra & Mahindra has five more automotive plants in different parts across the country.
