General Motors June sales rise 9.1% in China

General Motors Co. (GM) witnessed a 9.1% rise in sales in China last month, aided by those of Buicks and Cadillacs. The sales jumped to 257,798 units in June, with deliveries gaining 10.5% in the first half. 

General Motors has been competing with Volkswagen AG in the world’s largest automaker, hoping to take the lead among other international car manufacturers.  GM is planning to invest USD 12 billion in China by 2017 to increase production. At the same time, Volkswagen just announced two new factories to be built in China. GM outsold VW in the first quarter of this year. 

The deliveries of Buicks rose 14% this June, from the same period last year, while Cadillac punched in a 72% rise in the first six months. GM hopes to sell more than 70,000 units of Cadillacs by the end of this year. The production capacity at GM’s China factories is expected to be 65% higher by the end of 2020. The Detroit-based company will also introduce over 60 new or revised models by 2018-end.
