Dan Barber Again Wins at Beard Awards

On Monday, May 4, 2015, The James Beard Foundation named the Blue Hill restaurant of Mr. Dan Barber located at Stone Barns based in Pocantico Hills, New York, U.S., the top restaurant in the nation, giving him 3 of the highest national restaurant and chef honors of the group in 7 years.
Mr. Barber, who is heading a movement to re-focus on how Americans think about the sustainable food and agriculture, was also felicitated as the top chef of the nation in the year 2009. In 2013, sister restaurant of Blue Hill, the Blue Hill based in New York City, was also honored as the best eatery of the nation. The success of Blue Hill on Monday also marks the 1st time of one chef winning twice.
Mr. Barber has been praised for his ‘American seasonal’ menus that consist of exceptional ingredients, which have been cautiously produced and prepared minimally. He had initiated the Blue Hill chain in the year 2000 in Greenwich Village, after which the Stone Barns outpost in the year 2004. The latter functions at a working 4-season farm and an education center that is dedicated to increasing awareness about food sustainability issues.
Blue Hill restaurant at Stone Barns that sources most of its ingredients from its own farms and close-by fields provides no menus. The consumers instead are served an array of foods that is prepared at their respective peak seasonality.
The awards felicitate those who pursue the footsteps of James Beard, who is considered as the dean of American cooking by his time of death in 1985. The ceremony held on Monday marked the 25th year of recognizing the top talents in the food world by the foundation.
