Crown Holdings is contemplating setting up its second beverage can facility at its Osmaniye plant in Turkey. The company has said that the operations are likely to start in the first quarter of 2017.
Crown’s previous beverage can plant in Turkey is located in Izmit. The latest line is anticipated to present a starting annual production capacity of an estimated 900 million cans in different sizes. These beverage cans will be made of two piece aluminum.
The current plant in Osmaniye manufacturers around 800 million beverage cans and the introduction of the new line will help in doubling the annual production capacity of the plant to more than 1.7 billion cans.
Senior vice president at Crown Bevcan Europe and Middle East Peter Lockley said that the expansion of the plant comes as a response to the rising demand in Turkey and surrounding countries. Last year, the sales of empty beverage cans in Turkey amounted to more than 2.6 billion units.
Peter Lockley said that the company is more than pleased with the strong demand from consumers across the region. The plant is located in such a way that it can cater to the supply needs of customers based in Turkey as well as other neighboring nations.
Right from the outset, the plant in Osmaniye has been operating rather efficiently and the addition of one more line of beverage cans was in fact anticipated when the present facility was in the planning stages.
In related news, the intelligent double seaming system called Integra was launched by Crown recently, which monitors the excellence of seams to ensure error free packaged goods.
When it comes to the canning process, double seaming is increasingly important because this creates an airtight seal. This in turn, prevents degradation and helps in preserving the freshness of the product.
